Fishing Fishies (& 🦀)
back to the big blue
Fall has begun in Korea and even though Jeju is in my opinion still quite hot (26-30°C) it's viewed as fall.
^^ In the heat we decided to go to a beach and try fishing some crabs (it was actually more like feeding some crabs haha) and we ended up going to Samyang and the black beach there. Close to the beach there was some (really sharp!) rocks (ouch! If you don't like torturing your feet then wear some bathing shoes or some non-slippery slippers) where we thought would be a perfect spot for placing our little trap.
It's so relaxing to just sit there and look at crabs, hermit crabs and shrimps slowly making their way to the feast that awaits them. XD
And we also noticed that while crabs are veeery cautious and careful and runs off if they spot you, shrimps are the complete opposite. They seem kind of curious and they actually come closer to us as if to check out who we were or maybe just sniff a little bit. Not only us but they also showed some interest towards the crabs as well. ^^ How cute!
As bait we used a couple of mackerel heads that was leftover from dinner and the crabs seemed to love it.
The more than average cool crab trap that TY made from a soda bottle and some tape.
We actually left the trap/feast there in the water for a couple of hours while we had dinner and when we came back it was crowded in there! 😮
About twenty of them maybe? 🤔
After oOoo-ing and aaaw-ing for a while we let them go back home.
While I'm writing about fishing crabs I might as well just show some pics from awhile back when we went fishing with some friends and for us it was the first time ever!
I never had much interest in fishing really but yet something about it seemed calming and fun so at least I had to try. I mean, it was just the most basic amateur fishing ever but it was fun and I got a few fishies on the hook!
At a smaller squid fishing boat harbour in Jocheon east of Jeju city we sat down with a bag of tiny shrimps and some rods.
All in all we got 8 fishes + 1 that a man sitting a bit further away gave us as a gift.
happy catch!
We ended up setting them free again as well. ^. ~
It was more fun than I expected (I didn't think we would catch anything really) and I would love to try it again! 😄
